Northern Youth Abroad

Northern Youth Abroad has offered travel-based experiential education in Nunavut, and also in the Northwest Territories, for more than 20 years. Through their programs, participants have had the chance to step outside of their comfort zone and to live and learn away from home. Through this, they are given the unique chance to share their culture and lifestyle, to earn high school credits, and to build independence, confidence and grow as young leaders. As the impact of COVID19 (coronavirus) became more clear earlier this year, NYA (northern youth abroad) along with the world, needed to adjust to the current reality and adjust its programs, operations and intensions.

Online classrooms have been developed for each of NYA’s core programs. All assignments and activities in the Winter Assignments Packs were available with full functionality. Makigiaqta will be supporting this initiative with curriculum development and remote supports for Nunavummiut Youth.
