Logo Contest Winner

My name is Samara Lyall, I am a 14 year old Inuk from Taloyoak, Nunavut. Currently I am in grade 9. I enjoy sketching, sewing, beading and just being creative. When I was little, my grandpa told me I was talented at drawing portraits but he said, “always put the eyes in the middle”, to this day I still follow his words. I also love to draw the landscape, every summer we go out to our fishing camp and I take in the arctic scenery and draw it on my iPad. Three years ago, I taught myself to do digital drawings with an app. When I grow up, I want to be either a pilot or computer coder.

In my logo design I drew a young person who is searching for their future career. They are using their harpoon to help navigate the landscape. I imagine them being excited to start their journey. The northern lights represent our ancestors, and they are following them as they create their own path.
